With 126 camping units on the grounds, it was a busy 4th of July weekend at the village. The previous record high for campers that weekend was 92 last year.

It seems that we roll from one event right into the next. This coming weekend we not only have Railroad Days but there will be a wedding and family reunion also.

Railroad Days is an event that we always look forward to putting on as it showcases the various aspects of the railroad here at Prairie Village. Steam locomotive #29 will be operating during part of the two day event. Just seeing and hearing the big steamer running on the tracks is a unique experience.

The popular pizza train on Saturday evening is by reservation only. The train departs at 6:00 p.m. and will serve Pizza Ranch pizza, bread sticks, a pizza dessert and beverages. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 age 12 and under. Reservations need to be made by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday so give us a call at 256-3644 and then pick up tickets at the gift shop. There is no admission fee after 5:00 p.m. so if coming out only for the pizza train there is no additional cost.

A complete Railroad Days schedule of events can be seen at prairievillage.org/railroad-days/.

Last summer the Johnny Rogers Buddy Holly and Beyond concert in the Prairie Village opera house was an immensely entertaining event. The sellout crowd resulted in a second show being held a half hour after the first. From Chicago, Johnny has performed for four US presidents and has been voted as one of the top shows in Branson. He will be back again in the opera house to perform his Country Legends concert on Friday, July 31 and his History of Rock & Roll concert on Saturday, August 1.

Tickets are available through the mail (Prairie Village, PO Box 256, Madison, SD 57042) and at the gift shop. The 132 reserved seat tickets in the first seven rows are $25 and general seating tickets are $20.

If further information is desired or to purchase tickets by credit card by phone, contact Bev Mader at 605-480-2633. For details on these two exciting concerts visit the Prairie Village website at prairievillage.org/events.
