With the 4th of July holiday about upon us, it will be an exceptionally active time at the village. We will have a large number of campers with us over the next few days but there will still be electrical sites available so don’t hesitate to come out if you are desiring to have a camping weekend.

If you will be with us during the next few days please be aware that fireworks are strictly prohibited. It is vital that the historic buildings be protected from the potential of fire.

We always have a bunch of folks come out to the village on the evening of the 4th of July to take up a good position to see the fireworks display that is conducted over by Lake Herman to the west. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this opportunity to have a nice view of the excellent fireworks.

This Sunday’s church service at 8:00 a.m. in the Prairie Village church will have an Independence Day theme. The public is always welcome and encouraged to attend our church services.

Our popular Railroad Days is coming up on July 11 and 12. This is when we showcase the Prairie Village, Herman & Milwaukee railroad and provide the opportunity for visitors to learn more about various facets of railroading.
The events include train, doodlebug and motor car rides, chapel car Emmanuel and roundhouse tours, and a model railroad display. And there’s free hobo stew while it lasts on Sunday. For a complete schedule, check out our website at prairievillage.org/railroad-days. Daily admission is $6 for adults, $2 age 6-12, and free for age 5 and under.

One of the special features among the many activities at Railroad Days is the pizza train at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. This is a fun train with Pizza Ranch pizza, bread sticks, pizza dessert and a beverage being served. The cost is $12 for adults and $7 for age 12 and under. The pizza train is by reservation only, so give us a call at 256-3644.
