The Jamboree is about upon us and it promises to be a big one. Lots of campers and tractors have been arriving and that will no doubt steadily increase right up to the start on Friday.

Although all of the Jamboree electrical camp sites have been reserved for a long time, we accommodate everyone that comes who would like to camp without electricity. Generators are welcome. No reservations are required or taken. Those interested can just check in at the main gate building and then they will be directed to the non-electrical camping area. Lots of people will be taking advantage of this opportunity.

You may want to avoid trying to drive into the village on Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. due to the expected high volume of vehicle traffic. With the Great Plains tractor pull starting at 1:00 on that day the arrival of vehicles will be more numerous than usual. There will be continuous free shuttle buses available from the Gehl north parking lot on Hyland Avenue from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday during the Jamboree.

All activities on the grounds are free with paid admission.. Musical entertainment in the Lawrence Welk Opera House includes: Friday at 7:00 p.m. the Harmonikatz; 8:00 p.m. the Something New Band playing the top rock and roll hits of yesteryear; Saturday at 1:00 p.m. the Northwoods Country Band; 5:30 p.m. the SD Old Time Fiddlers; and at 8:00 p.m. it’s the Larry Olsen Polka Band.

We expect an exceptionally large crowd for the Saturday tractor pulls with the Great Plains event starting at 1:00 and the Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pullers Association big sanctioned pull beginning at 7:00.

On Saturday and Sunday of the Jamboree, the Dakota Territory Rangers (DTR) Fast Draw Club will be providing the opportunity to learn about and participate in the sport of fast draw. This will be located just south of the sod house.

We still have space available on our dinner trains that will depart at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $25 single, $40 a couple, and $14 for age 12 and under. Call us right away at 256-3644 to make reservations for what is always an enjoyable Jamboree dining experience.

Additional information and a complete schedule of Jamboree events is on the Prairie Village website at prairievillage.org/jamboree.
