We are rapidly approaching the August 23-25 Steam Threshing Jamboree featuring International Harvester. The campers seem to arrive earlier every year and that’s a good thing as the sooner they get settled in the smoother it goes for everyone later.

For those who would like to get their 3-day admission wristbands and/or register their golf cart or side by side prior to the event, that can be done now at the village gift shop. Jamboree buttons are also currently available there.

We are looking for volunteers to assist by being carousel ticket sellers and carousel operators.

We also have a need for people mover drivers. This involves driving tractors pulling our people mover trailers and transporting Jamboree attendees from the parking area to the admission gates. This is an important function that we could definitely use some volunteer help with.

We have a paid position available also. This is for an additional trash removal person. Please call me at 860-8887 with regard to this 4-day employment position or to be a carousel or people mover volunteer.

For planning purposes, you may want to avoid trying to drive into the village on the Saturday of the Jamboree between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. due to the expected high volume of vehicle traffic. With the Great Plains tractor pull starting at 1:00 on that day the arrival of vehicles will be more numerous than usual. There will be continuous free shuttle buses available from the Gehl north parking lot from 9:00 a.am. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday during the Jamboree.

On this week’s Friday and Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m., the Ghostlight Players from Freeman will be performing the comedy “The Odd Couple” in the Lawrence Welk Opera House. This will be some great pre-Jamboree entertainment. Tickets at the door are $12 adults and $9 age 17 and under.
