With 92 camping units on the grounds, it was a busy 4th of July weekend at the village. About 65 movie goers came to the opera house on Saturday evening for the first-ever free movie with the showing of “Frozen”. The next free movie will be “The Nut Job” on July 19 at 7:30.

It seems that we roll from one event right into the next one this season and that continues with our Railroad Days this weekend. This event is one that we always look forward to putting on as it showcases the various aspects of the railroad here at the village. A special happening will be the return of steam locomotive #29 as it will be operating during part of the two day event. Just seeing and hearing the big steamer running on the tracks a unique experience.

The popular pizza train on Saturday evening at Railroad Days is by reservation only. The train departs at 6:00 pm and will serve Pizza Ranch pizza, bread sticks, a pizza dessert and beverages. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 age 12 and under. Reservations need to be made by 2:00 pm Saturday by calling us at 256-3644 and tickets can be picked up at the gift shop. There is no admission fee after 5:00 pm so if coming out for the pizza train only there is no additional cost.

A complete Railroad Days schedule of events can be seen at prairievillage.org/railroad-days/.

Next Thursday and Friday evening the 17th and 18th , the Ghostlight Players from Freeman, SD return to the opera house with this year’s theatre performance of the comedy “Sylvia”. Curtain time is 7:30 and admission at the door is $12. We are pleased to have the Ghostlight Players back at the opera house for what will no doubt be an excellent theatre production. Details on the play “Sylvia”, which revolves around a dog played by a person, are on our website at prairievillage.org/ghostlight-players/.
