Fifty years ago, John Deere unveiled its 3010 tractor as part of the company’s 50th anniversary. It was the same year that the Steam Threshing Jamboree began on Joe Habeger’s farm north of Madison. In 2012, the two are coming together to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Steam Threshing Jamboree at Prairie Village, and one lucky person is going to drive away with a 1962 reconditioned 3010 tractor. An anniversary celebration this big deserves a giveaway to match, and that’s why KJAM Radio, James River Equipment of Madison, and Prairie Village have teamed up to give away the tractor.
This special project kicks off this Saturday as the 3010 will be at Montgomery’s Furniture, the first of over 30 locations in and around Madison and throughout eastern South Dakota where it will appear. Visitors to the locations will be able to register at no cost to win the tractor. All of the event locations are listed on KJAM Radio’s website at amazingmadison.com and also on our website at prairievillage.org/jamboree. Ten semi-finalists will be drawn at each event. Those semi-finalists will need to be present at the Prairie Village Jamboree on Sunday, August 26th at 11:30 a.m. when the winner of the $20,000 tractor will be determined.
We greatly appreciate this promotion of Prairie Village and the 50th Anniversary Jamboree made possible by KJAM Radio, James River Equipment, and the sponsoring businesses involved with this dynamic project.
The Questers 2012 state convention will be held at Prairie Village on Friday, June 1, and in Madison on the 2nd. The Questers is an organization that encourages the preservation and restoration of existing landmarks. They provided $5,000 for a representative of the Carousel Works in Ohio to conduct a comprehensive inspection of our carousel last October. The Prairie Village carousel is an important and extremely valuable asset and it is in need of preservation work if we are going to be able to insure its future well-being. Part of the preservation would involve the complete restoration of the horses which would be accomplished at the Carousel Works facility in Ohio. With significant funding being required, grants in support of the carousel preservation are being pursued. Any and all donations in support of the carousel preservation project will be greatly appreciated.
Also next weekend at the village on Saturday the 2nd is the South Dakota Ploughing Association Tractor Drive. Information on this fun event for tractor enthusiasts can be found on our website at prairievillage.org/tractor-ride or call Chuck Heimes at 605-336-9193.
And then there’s the always popular Northern Bull Riding Tour event coming up on Friday, June 8 at the village. More details to follow on this exciting event, but plan now to attend.
