Prairie Village News 05/18/2012

After the rain postponement on May 5, the weather couldn”t have been any better for our consignment auction last Saturday. It was a big success and there was a large crowd was on hand as 354 bid cards were issued compared to 266 last year. It appeared that we had lots of happy sellers and buyers. We certainly do appreciate everyone”s participation and overall support of the auction. This annual event is an important fund raiser for us as it helps support our continued preservation of the historic buildings at the village.

The nice weather this past week has certainly contributed to the flurry of activity here at the village and our 2012 season is definitely off and running at full speed. We hosted a large number of school tour students this week and they seemed to have had an especially good time. It”s a hectic time for us but enjoyable also. As one of the teachers noted, with the excited kids wanting to go every which way to see and do things at the village, it”s about like trying to herd cats for the teachers and other accompanying adults.

With the camping season upon us it”s a good time to point out that we do have excellent camping facilities here at Prairie Village. There are 234 sites with electricity at $17 per night and non-electrical sites at $14. Camping reservations are not normally required, except for the Jamboree. However, if you are a multiple RV group and want to camp together just give us a call and we will put reserved signs on adjacent camp sites for you. With further regard to Jamboree camping, all electrical spots are reserved for the event but we do acommodate everyone that would like to dry lot camp (no electricity). No reservations are required or taken. Just show up at the gate and we will lead you to a camping spot. Generators are welcome. We anticipate that we will have a large number of campers taking advantage of this option and we will be planning accordingly.

Please keep in mind that we offer rental of our picnic shelter and kitchen for family reunions and other group gatherings. Churches are available for weddings and so far we have three weddings scheduled to take place this year, and also three family reunions.
