Prairie Village News 05/14/2013

Our annual consignment auction is coming right up this Saturday starting at 10:30. A large number of items have been consigned and we are anticipating an excellent auction. We have tractors and other farm machinery, vehicles, boats, industrial and shop equipment, and many, many other items.

A complete list of the items that will be at the sale can be seen on the Prairie Village website at prairievillage.org/auction. The list is updated daily, usually within an hour of when the consignment is called in or arrives at the village. Consigning items is easy, just contact me at 256-3644 or at my cell 860-8887. We will continue to take consignments the remainder of the week and encourage you to consign as soon as possible if you are intending to.

Our much appreciated volunteer auctioneers are once again Wayne Bessman, Rick Becker and Mike Corcoran (Huron). Year after year Wayne and Rick have volunteered their services and they are a big part of what has made the Prairie Village consignment auction be so successful. All of the proceeds go to the upkeep of the historic buildings.

Speaking of upkeep of buildings, a major project to be undertaken this year is the continued preservation of the library, which was the first chartered library in Dakota Territory (1886), and was at one time the Howard City Hall. A $5,000 grant that has been received from the Mary Chilton DAR Foundation will assist signficantly in accomplishing the preservation work which will include new siding and windows.

In addition to our up to date website at prairievillage.org, we are on Facebook at Historic Prairie Village. Just this past weekend we received our 700th “Like”. Follow us on Facebook for all kinds of interesting and informative postings relating to the village.
