Emerald Ash Borer

FIREWOOD NOTICE

On May 9, 2018, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture confirmed an infestation of Emerald Ash Borer in the Sioux Falls area. This is the first confirmed infestation in South Dakota. The Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive insect that has killed tens of millions of ash trees in at least 32 states.
The recent discovery has prompted the enactment of this policy regarding outside firewood brought to Prairie Village. Our policy is consistent with those being enacted by the South Dakota State Parks and other potentially affected entities. The policy has been created and will continue to be reviewed in consultation with the forestry division of the South Dakota Department of Agriculture.
Effective immediately, firewood originating within the identified federal/state quarantine area of South Dakota (see map), as well as all out-of-state firewood, is prohibited on Prairie Village property.
The SD quarantine area includes all of Minnehaha County, Lincoln County, Turner County, and Union County.

We offer firewood for purchase at the gift shop as we have it available. Also, firewood from within South Dakota but not originating within the quarantine area may be used.  Firewood purchased within the quarantine area (Sioux Falls, for example) WHICH HAS BEEN TREATED AND IS MARKED with a treatment/safety certificate is usable.
Thank you for your cooperation with this important policy as we work to protect the natural resources here at Prairie Village.
